The Official Newbie Guide.
Down below we've summed up and linked to all the things you, as a player, should know of and how to use. Please do read this entire post!

Community Usage
In Renascent Years we've three communities: [info]renascentyears, [info]ryear_ooc, and [info]ryear_reports. Now the function of each of these communities is as follows:

renascentyears: This is our main community, what is posted in this community are threads/logs, owl posts, any other notes of particular interest (that are not journal posts), posters, you name it. Basically any non-journal game play should be made in this community.

ryear_ooc: This is our out of character community, for introductions, questions, plots, backstories, plans etc

ryear_reports: Any announcements by the mods will be archived here for your quick-finding needs. Extra over arching plot details will also be posted here. This community will have posts by the mod team only, but do join it and keep an eye on the posts (some might be friends locked!)

Using the Tags
So we like to keep our communities organized for easy access, trust us, when everything is properly tagged it makes looking for an old entry far far easier! Now let's get to this 'How to Tag':

First of all, what is a tag? Please refer here.

You must use tags in [info]renascentyears to keep things organized and neat. When you post make sure to tag the week & the characters involved. For example, a thread with Scorpius Malfoy, Albus Potter and Rose Weasley on the first week of classes would be tagged with: week-001, scorpius-malfoy, rose-weasley. albus-potter

We require the week to be tagged because we allow backdated logs and the week tags will help us keep track of when the events of the thread was supposed to have occurred. Similarly, it helps us keep track of activity each week. The weeks start on Sunday and end on Saturday midnight on Eastern time. If you aren't sure what week it is, simply refer to the CALENDAR

When using the week tag it will follow this format here: week-001
This tag represents week one of the roleplay, once we are in week two it will switch over to week-002 and so on.

It should also be noted that there are tags already in the ooc community. They are: introductions, backstory, hiatus, and finally mod-posts tag for important information. We aren't strict on tags used in the ooc community, but we'll like you very much if you use them! ;D

PB Image Blurbs
If you have been to our PB Image page you will note that beside each image is a space available for a character blurb. We basically just pulled a few lines from your application to write that, if you prefer something else or have something brilliant in mind for the blurbs, feel free to write your own and give it to us instead!

Character Activity
Each character should entry/log a minimum of once every two weeks, which translates to twice each month. We do hope you entry/log a bit more often than that though! If you have three characters this means the player must make a minimum of six entry/logs a month (to account for each character).

That brings us to the next topic of Commenting. See all those lovely journal posts? They beg for comments, really. Long threads in the journal posts make everyone happy. Spam them with witty comments, snark, ink spills, whatever. Hogwarts wants the students to all communicate and get along (or not), the journals were given to everyone for that reason!

NOTE: Activity checks will be done one week before the end of every month, if a character has been inactive for the month they will receive a strike, if they've been inactive for two consecutive months than we will assume the character has been dropped and remove them from the game. Similarly, if you receive three strikes for inactivity, your character will be removed from the game.

Because the activity checks are done a week before the end of the month, this will give the player that week to do a entry/log and save the character from a strike. Also, if you really can't post for the month or something, consider taking a hiatus, we understand that life gets in the way sometimes!

Enrolling in Classes
Now to pick out the lovely classes for you characters, remember that most kids don't like school so don't overload them! Be nice to your character, they will love you for it all the more. With that said if you hop on over to the Class Schedule post you can see the class time tables, find your character's year and pick out the classes for your character and post them down below.

The Professors
Since a lot of professors were mentioned to have retired or died in the last book, we’ve brought in some new ones. The names of those professors can be found on the character list on better yet, on the Professors List. We mods went and took the time to write a little blurb about all of them so they aren’t just strangers with names to you all.

House Points
We had decided to bring in the house point element into Renascent Years, not to only create a slight competitive streak between you players, but also to create something else for you characters to play off of. It is a good way to create a more realistic Hogwarts experience for your character play. More Information

The Challenge Teams
An important list to note, since it is the basis of the game, is the challenge team list. This is the list of the teams that your character will be competing with in the challenges, find your character, find out who is on their team and seek those character out! Get to know them well folks! Also for McGonagall's speech on the Challenges look in here</small>
